Privacy Policy

TheraFinder ("we," "us," "our") operates the TheraFinder mobile app, which helps people seeking therapy ("patients") connect with licensed mental-health therapists ("therapists") for a short introductory video call. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly when you create an account and use the app:
| If you're a patient | Name, email address, password, the topics you're seeking support for (e.g. anxiety, relationships), and your session-style preferences. |
|---|---|
| If you're a therapist | Name, email address, password, professional license number, optional NPI number, specialties, insurance accepted, session mode (virtual/in-person), an introductory bio, and practice details you choose to share (practice name, location, years practicing, website). |
| Messages | Chat messages you send to a matched user are stored so the conversation is available to both participants. |
| Video/audio | When you join an introductory call, your camera and microphone stream to the other participant in real time through our video provider. We do not record calls. |
| Usage & device data | Basic technical data needed to operate the app (e.g. timestamps of activity, which screens you use) is generated as part of normal app function. |
How We Use Your Information
- To create and secure your account, and to authenticate you when you log in.
- To match patients with relevant, verified therapists and to operate the swipe/request/match flow.
- To let matched patients and therapists message each other and schedule/join an introductory video call.
- To review and verify a therapist's professional credentials and practice information before their profile is made visible to patients. This review is performed by our team and may include manually cross-checking the license number and practice details you provide against your state licensing board and, if you supply one, the public NPI Registry.
- To respond to reports of abuse, harassment, or policy violations, and to enforce blocks between users.
- To communicate with you about your account (e.g. approval status, safety notices).
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your data for third-party advertising or ad targeting.
Sensitive Information
The topics a patient shares when signing up (for example, that they're seeking help with anxiety or grief) can be sensitive, health-adjacent information. We limit access to this data using database-level access controls so that only you and a therapist you've actually matched with can see it, and our own team accesses account data only to review therapist credentials, investigate reports, or maintain the service.
Who We Share Information With
We use a small number of service providers to run TheraFinder. We do not sell your data to anyone, and these providers may only use your data to provide the service to us:
| Supabase | Our database, authentication, and real-time messaging infrastructure. All account, profile, match, and message data is stored on Supabase's servers. |
|---|---|
| Daily.co | Powers the live video/audio for introductory calls. Daily relays your call in real time to connect you with the other participant; we do not record or store the call content. |
| NPI Registry (CMS) | If a therapist chooses to enter an NPI number at signup, we send that number to the free, public National Provider Identifier registry (a U.S. federal government database) to cross-check the name on file. This is optional and only applies to therapist accounts. |
We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the safety of a user, or to investigate a violation of our Terms of Service.
Data Retention & Account Deletion
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. You can permanently delete your account at any time from within the app (Account → Delete My Account). Deleting your account immediately and permanently removes your profile, matches, messages, and scheduled sessions from our database. This action cannot be undone.
Your Choices
- Access & correction: you can view and update most of your profile information directly in the app.
- Deletion: delete your account at any time, as described above.
- Blocking & reporting: you can block another user or report a conversation directly from the chat screen. Blocking immediately prevents further messages between you and that user.
Security
Passwords are never stored in plain text — authentication is handled by Supabase Auth, which uses industry-standard password hashing. Data in transit is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS). Access to your data is restricted using database-level row security rules, so that, for example, one patient cannot read another patient's messages or profile-sensitive fields.
No system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security of information transmitted to the app.
Children's Privacy
TheraFinder is not directed to, and may not be used by, anyone under 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Not a Substitute for Emergency Care
TheraFinder is a matching and scheduling tool — it is not a crisis service and the introductory video call is not a therapy session. If you are in crisis or experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 (US) or the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline immediately.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
